It nurtures our children, strengthens our community, supplies our businesses with competent employees, attracts positive growth and serves our future by developing strong leaders. Dedicated to quality education for all our children, the Education Foundation or Sarasota County, Inc., an independent not-for-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors, works in partnership with the community and the Sarasota County school district. Each year, the Education Foundation raises much-needed funds and provides educational opportunities that benefit Sarasota County public school children. Now, more than ever, there is a real need to keep raising these dollars. While Sarasota County prides itself on being one of the top-ranked districts in Florida, our schools continue to struggle with budget shortfalls and the need for cutbacks. Keeping classroom size down and providing well-trained, high-quality teaching professionals for our children presents a never-ending challenge. Technology and equipment constantly need to be updated. Some educational programs that increase student achievement have been scaled back or eliminated, and many others are at risk. Standard funding only provides the basics. We want our children to stay at the top. Through the Education Foundation, concerned citizens invest in the future and ensure that quality education will endure in our community. The Education Foundation of Sarasota County invites you to join us in providing the extra edge of excellence for our community's children. The Education Foundation helps children in Sarasota County's public schools in many significant ways. Here's a look at some of them. Bringing Cutting-Edge Teaching into the Classroom The Education Foundation makes innovative, curriculum-related projects possible through a number of classroom grant programs, including the Edge of Excellence and Building Blocks for Success. Students whose teachers are on the cutting edge engage in an amazing variety of educational adventures, from writing and publishing their own books and excavating fossils in a simulated dig to creating videos about music from around the world.
